Can you recycle rechargeable batteries and power tool packs?

Rechargeable AA/AAA cells go in normal battery collection bins. Larger lithium packs — power tools, cordless vacuums, e-bike and e-scooter batteries — go to the dedicated battery container at recycling centres, and e-bike batteries can also go back via the retailer. Damaged, swollen or punctured lithium packs are dangerous: don't charge or bin them; keep them somewhere non-flammable and ask your recycling centre or the retailer for advice.

Tips

• Swollen pack? Stop using it immediately and get it to the recycling centre
• Tape terminals on loose packs
• E-bike batteries: retailer take-back is often easiest
