Can you recycle smoke alarms?
Smoke and heat alarms are electrical waste — take them to the small-electricals area at your recycling centre, removing any replaceable battery for the battery bin. Older ionisation alarms contain a tiny sealed radioactive source (americium-241) which is safe in normal handling but is exactly why they belong in the WEEE stream, not your bin. Some manufacturers offer post-back recycling.
