Can you recycle electric blankets and heated throws?
Electric blankets are WEEE, not textiles: the wiring means they must never go in textile banks or bins. Take them to the recycling centre's electricals area. Old electric blankets are also a fire-safety issue — many fire services recommend replacing any over 10 years old, and some run free testing events.
Tips
- Never in a clothing bank — the wires make them WEEE
- Check yours for scorch marks and wear each winter
Which bin does it go in?
Small-WEEE at the recycling centre — never textiles banks
Check booking, proof-of-address and vehicle rules before travelling.
