Can you recycle envelopes with plastic windows?

Standard paper envelopes, including those with small plastic film windows, can go straight in kerbside recycling; the pulping process screens the film out. You do not need to tear the window out, though some people prefer to. Heavily padded or plastic-lined envelopes are different — see padded envelopes.
