Can you recycle incandescent and halogen bulbs?

🚫 Not recyclable

General waste, wrapped — not glass recycling, not lamp bins

View saved list

Old-style filament and halogen bulbs are not recyclable: the fine wire and heat-resistant glass can't be separated economically, and most lamp-collection schemes don't want them. Wrap dead bulbs and put them in general waste. Never put them in glass recycling — bulb glass contaminates container glass.

Tips

  • Wrap in the new bulb's packaging before binning
  • They're the one bulb type that's simply general waste

Which bin does it go in?
