Can you recycle asbestos?

Asbestos (common in pre-2000 garage roofs, soffits, floor tiles, textured coatings) is seriously hazardous when fibres become airborne — never break it up, put it in any bin, or take it to the tip without checking. Some councils accept small amounts of double-bagged, wetted cement-bonded asbestos at specific recycling centres by appointment; anything friable or larger needs a licensed asbestos contractor. If in doubt, leave it undisturbed and get a survey — removal is a professional job.
