Can you recycle engine oil?

Used engine oil must go to the dedicated oil bank at your household waste recycling centre (find one via oilbankline.org.uk) — it is illegal to pour it down drains or onto ground, and one litre can pollute a million litres of water. Take it in a sealed container, ideally the new oil's empty bottle, and don't mix it with other fluids like antifreeze or brake fluid, which contaminate the whole tank.
