Fire extinguishers are pressurised vessels and must not go in any household bin. Most recycling centres accept small domestic extinguishers — check your site first, as some require them empty and some want them full and handled by staff. Fire-safety companies and suppliers also take back and refurbish extinguishers. Never attempt to unscrew or puncture one.

Tips

  • Ring the tip first — acceptance rules differ
  • Extinguisher suppliers refurbish and refill old units
